Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue announced the arrest of Kareem Acker (B/M, 25 of Gretna, LA.), for Armed Robbery (Felony), Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a CDS (Felony), Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Felony) & Possession of Valium (Diazepam) (Felony).

On Tuesday, February 12th, 2019, shortly before 4:30 a.m., Thibodaux Police Department officers responded to Martin Luther King Park in reference to an armed robbery. Upon officer’s arrival, it was learned that the suspect later identified as Kareem Acker, attempted to flee the scene at which time, his vehicle became stuck in the mud. Mr. Acker, who was still in the driver seat, was ordered out, but refused to fully comply with police. Mr. Acker continued going back into the vehicle, where he retrieved an unknown object later learned to be a firearm. Mr. Acker then put the weapon onto the ground, trying to submerge it into the mud. Mr. Acker then surrendered to police, at which time he was found to be in possession of multiple prescription narcotics. The officers later recovered the loaded firearm, which was learned to be stolen. Mr. Acker who is a prior convicted felon was taken into custody and transported to the Thibodaux Police Department.

Upon questioning the victim, it was learned that the two of them met on a dating site and agreed to meet. Mr. Acker who drove from Gretna, picked up the victim in Terrebonne Parish, and later transported the victim to Martin Luther King Park, in Thibodaux, LA.  The victim advised, Mr. Acker then pulled a pistol and demanded the purse, cash and a cell phone. The victim stated the cash was surrendered, but refused to give up the cell phone. The victim stated that Mr. Acker then attempted to flee the scene, but became stuck. This allowed the victim time to contact the police.

Mr. Acker denied the allegation of the armed robbery and only admitted to meeting on a dating site, which later led them to meet in person. Mr. Acker advised that the money in question was willfully given to him when he picked up the victim in Terrebonne Parish. Mr. Acker added that once arriving at the park and discovering that the victim was actually a male and not a female as assumed; he told the victim to get out of his car.

Based on evidence obtained during the investigation, Mr. Acker was subsequently arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, where he remains on a $335,000.00 Bond.
