THIBODAUX, La. – Coming off three consecutive wins, the Nicholls State University baseball team is primed for a three-game series with Grambling State University at Ben Meyer Diamond at Didier Field.

Friday’s game is slated to start at 6 p.m. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and Sunday will feature a 2 p.m. start time.

The Colonels’ (3-1) lone slip up of the season came in a 6-5 defeat to Southern Illinois in their opener. Nicholls most recently tied a program record with 25 runs in a 25-5 clobbering of Alcorn Tuesday. Redshirt senior third baseman Brady Bell was a triple short from the cycle. His performance was highlighted by a grand slam during the Colonels six-run first inning.

Despite replacing two starters from last season’s weekend rotation, Nicholls boasts a 2.20 team ERA, which ranks 30th in Division I and second in the Southland Conference. Junior Beau Balado and freshman Shane Mejia Jr. have yet to allow an earned run through 11.2 combined innings and senior Parker White has allowed just one earned run in eight innings.

The Tigers (2-2) have split their first four games, starting their season with a 7-4 victory over Eastern Kentucky before a 1-2 showing against three SWAC opponents. Slugger Garrett Smith has a team-high .538 batting average but Drexler Macaay fronts the squad with three extra-base hits, all doubles. The team’s lone homer was recorded by Isaiah Torres. Grambling stunts a 2.29 team ERA as Sunday starter Jason Alvarez shut down Alabama State with 10 strikeouts and one earned run over seven innings.
