Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, Chief Deputy, Colonel Terry Daigre, said that on Saturday night, March 2, 2019, Terrebonne Parish Narcotic Agents were patrolling on Monarch Dr. Houma regarding multiple people loitering in the parking lots. At approx. 11:30 p.m. Agents were standing in the parking lot speaking with two men when they heard multiple gunshots. Agents transmitted this information on the police radio and TPSO patrol deputies, Louisiana State Police and Houma Police responded.  

There shortly afterwards two men ran across Monarch Dr. from Ballers Sports Bar parking lot, 194 Monarch Dr. One of the men had a gunshot wound to his arm and the other was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his neck. TPSO Agents assisted them until Acadian Ambulance arrived on scene. They were both transported to hospitals.

The man with the gunshot wound to his neck remains hospitalized in critical condition. The second man who was shot in the arm remains in the hospital in stable condition. TPSO detectives recovered multiple bullet casings in the parking lot of Ballers Sports Bar. There was also two vehicles struck during this shooting.

 Immediately after the shooting occurred a suspect was chased through the parking lot and taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Shawn Taplett, b/m, age 21, 497 St. Phillips St. Raceland, La. Detectives recovered a handgun that is believed to be used in this shooting.

After further investigation Shaw Taplett was arrested for two counts of Attempted 2nd degree murder, two counts of criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Taplett was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he awaits a bond hearing.
