Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue announced the arrest of Kevon Southall (B/M, 23), of 317 Daralyn Drive, Houma, LA for Second Degree Murder & Attempted Second Degree Murder.

On Monday October 15, 2018, Thibodaux Police Detectives began investigating the death of a man after he was shot in his vehicle. The investigation later ruled the death as a homicide, which claimed the life of Alex Morena.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Dove Lane, in reference to a report of gun shots being fired. Upon arrival, the driver of a vehicle (Morena) was found deceased on scene from a suspected gunshot wound. A passenger who had fled the scene on foot was later found, after notifying police via phone that he too was shot while inside the vehicle. The passenger sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to a local hospital, to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, as the investigation unfolded, detectives conducted a search warrant at 1702 S. Barbier Avenue. The search warrant stemmed from the homicide. The investigation led Detectives to link Mr. Hill as a suspect in the case. Mr.Hill was apprehended on the scene of the search warrant on warrants for Second Degree Murder & Attempted Second Degree Murder. Mr. Hill was later transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he is being held on a $1,500,000.00 bond. Later that day, three more arrest were made in connection with the homicide. Ron Brown, Saharold Holmes and Tandell Azema were all located in different areas inside the City of Thibodaux, where they were all subsequently arrested on warrants for Second Degree Murder & Attempted Second Degree Murder.

A fifth suspect was then sought after by police identified as Kevon Southall. After being unable to capture Mr. Southall and suspecting that he was on the run, the Thibodaux Police Department took to social media asking for the public’s assistance in locating Mr. Southall. Warrants for Second Degree Murder & Attempted Second Degree Murder were issued for Mr. Southall and he was entered into the National Crime Information Center Database as wanted with a $2,000,000.00 bond.

After being on the run for nearly five (5) months, Mr. Southall was captured by the Hattiesburg (Mississippi) Police Department on Saturday March 9, 2019. Around 1:30 a.m., Mr. Southall was stopped in a vehicle that had been reported for unauthorized use. Mr. Southall was taken into custody by H.P.D. on his two outstanding Second Degree Murder & Attempted Second Degree Murder warrants from the Thibodaux Police Department. Mr. Southall, who is a convicted felon, was also charged with possession of two firearms that were recovered during the traffic stop, which Mr. Southall claimed were his. Mr. Southall was booked into the Forest County Jail, where he remains at this time. Mr. Southall will be extradited back to Thibodaux, Louisiana and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on both T.P.D. Second Degree Murder & Attempted Second Degree Murder Arrests Warrants.

This incident still remains under investigation. More information will be released as it can be made available to the public.
