FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University junior right-handed pitcher Trever Kilcrease has been named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Kilcrease put together one of the most impressive performances in college baseball this season in the Colonels’ Southland opener against New Orleans on Friday. He held the Privateers hitless into the ninth inning and did so in dominating fashion, striking out a Southland-high 14 batters. He struck out the side twice and walked just three batters before allowing his lone hit of the game with one out in the final inning.

Kilcrease left the game with a 2-1 lead but received a no decision after UNO rallied for a late-inning victory. The Colonels bounced back from the loss to win the next two games to take the series.

The Colonel pitching staff boasts the Southland’s top ERA (3.36), opponent batting average (.233), and is tied for first with 150 strikeouts.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
