DOG FIGHTING ARREST

SUBJECT: DOG FIGHTING ARRESTS – ROYAL JOHNSON, SR., WILFRED
MITCHELL, JALIL M. WATKINS and CALVIN T. JOHNSON
LABADIEVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports multiple dog fighting arrests on Wednesday.
Deputies were dispatched to the LA 1017, Freetown area of Labadieville, LA, on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, in connection with several individuals conducting dog fighting activities.
K-9 and patrol units responded to the address. Upon arrival, deputies noted approximately eight to ten individuals conducting dog fighting. As deputies approached, suspects fled in different directions.
Three suspects were taken into custody and are identified as follows:
-Wilfred Mitchell, 18, of 519 Paula Drive, Thibodaux, LA
-Jalil M. Watkins, 21, of 121 1014, Labadieville, LA
-Royal Johnson, Sr., 38, of 121 1014 Labadieville, LA
All three suspects were booked into the Assumption Detention Center on charges of:
*Dog fighting
*Training / Possession of Dogs for Fighting
All three are incarcerated awaiting bond hearings.
Deputies took possession of 2 pit bulls used for fighting and turned the dogs over to a local animal activists’ organization for care and treatment.
The investigation continued as detectives sought to identify additional suspects.
On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, detectives arrested Calvin T. Johnson, 26, of 3372 Back Marais Lane, Napoleonville, LA. Calvin T. Johnson was booked on charges of:
*Dog Fighting
*Training / Possession of Dogs for Fighting
Johnson was incarcerated in lieu of $20,000 bond.
Royal Johnson remains incarcerated with bond set at $50,000
Wilfred Mitchell and Jalil M. Watkins previously posted bond.
The investigation is continuing.
