Original release - The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations (BOI) are actively looking for a suspect who fled from a Trooper during a traffic stop on the morning of January 16th, 2019.

The preliminary investigation by BOI revealed that shortly before 2:30 am on January 16th, a Trooper with Troop C attempted to stop the driver of a 2000 GMC Yukon on LA 24 North at Hollywood Road. The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Kendall D. Lightell of Houma, ignored the Troopers emergency lights and accelerated in an attempt to escape. Lightell made a left onto Hollywood Rd. and disregarded a red light before pulling over and exiting his vehicle without putting it into park near LA 3040. The Trooper observed Lightell in possession of a firearm, and during the encounter the Trooper discharged his service weapon.

Lightell fled the scene on foot, and at this time his whereabouts are unknown. The Trooper was uninjured and investigators believe Lightell was also uninjured. This investigation remains active and ongoing. Troopers have obtained warrants of arrest for Lightell on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, carrying a firearm by a convicted felon, and aggravated flight from an officer.
