The City of Thibodaux has been monitoring and will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Barry and decisions are constantly being made and adjusted by the City of Thibodaux’s Unified Command Group. Storm trackers predict 10-20 inches of rainfall for our area. City of Thibodaux and Thibodaux Police Department governmental offices and buildings will be closed on Friday, July 12, 2019 and will re-open on Monday, July 15, 2019. All City of Thibodaux and Thibodaux Police Department essential personal will work extended hours during this time. As of this time, a curfew is not in effect. An update will be given if a decision changes.

South Louisiana residents understand the importance of learning from the past and preparing for the future. With Tropical Storm Barry approaching, Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue offers some helpful tips to our community partners.

  • Stock non-perishable food, bottled water, batteries and flashlights.
  • Be sure to include water for bathing in case of contaminated water or no access to water. (Helpful Tip: Fill you bathtub with water before the weather hits).
  • Secure all outside property so the wind cannot carry it away.
  • Board all windows in attempt to protect them from flying debris.
  • Finalize your emergency preparedness plan.
  • Identify sources of information and contact details.
  • Anticipate medication needs at home and on the road.
  • Confirm if pets are allowed at your travel destination. Be sure to include food and water for them as well.
  • Families with special needs can register with the Office of Emergency Preparedness at (985) - 532-8174.
  • Avoid traveling on flooded streets. If you must travel through standing water, do so at a very low speed, in attempt to protect the property of residences in the area. Possible streets to be aware of: Rienzi Extension, Louisa Street, Eagle Drive, East 7th Street, Jackson / W. 7th Street, Jackson / St. Mary Street, Canal Boulevard (South End) & Plater Drive.
  • If a mandatory curfew is put into place before, during or after the storm, please obey this order for the safety of all citizens.

Chief Bryan Zeringue and the Thibodaux Police Department are working closely with Mayor Tommy Eschete and the City of Thibodaux Public Works Department, to ensure that all pumps are in working order and all drains are clear of any debris. Sand and bags are available to the public for self-bagging, at our Public Works Barn located at 1219 Henry S. Thibodaux Street.
